QuiX Quantum BV
QuiX Quantum is a quantum computing based on photonics technology startup, located in Enschede, the Netherlands. The company was founded in January 2019 by Dr. Hans van den Vlekkert, a veteran of the photonics industry and serial entrepreneur, Dr. Jelmer Renema, an expert in quantum photonics, and a team of professors from the University of Twente. We are a fabless, horizontally integrated company, focussing on quantum computing using integrated photonics. However, we are always on the lookout for other applications of integrated photonics for quantum technologies.
Within AQuRA QuiX Quantum will develop photonic chip based external cavity diode lasers for the 679nm and 707nm repump laser wavelengths. |

Dr. Jelmer J. Renema co-founded QuiX Quantum and provided technology leadership in the creation of the business and the technology. He is also active in the broader quantum and photonics ecosystem in his role as Assistant Professor of quantum optics at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
Renema gained his PhD from the University of Leiden, Netherlands in the Quantum Matter and Optics group. Simultaneously, he was a Junior Research Fellow at The Queen’s College, UK and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Ultrafast Quantum Optics group led by Professor Ian Walmsley FRS at Oxford University, UK. After obtaining a Veni Fellowship, he moved to the University of Twente in the Netherlands and co-founded QuiX Quantum in 2019. A pioneering force behind QuiX Quantum, he is the Chief Scientist, focusing on scientific and research aspects. Contact: [email protected] |
Dr. Devin H. Smith has extensive experience in quantum optics, quantum information processing, and integrated photonics. He obtained his BSc in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University, Canada, his MSc in Quantum Computing at the Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo, Canada, and his PhD from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems at the University of Queensland, Australia. This focus on quantum computing and its architecture was driven by an early interest in the field. He has also worked on integrated photonics as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the NTT Basic Research Laboratories in Japan, and as a Research Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), University of Southampton in the UK.
Smith’s unique comprehension in both fields, quantum computing and integrated photonics, have allowed him to easily communicate across boundaries and between fields. His strong lead in the Quantum Science Team is essential for the development of the technology vision. Contact: [email protected] |
Dr. Caterina Taballione obtained her Master’s degree in Physics in 2014 at the University of Rome La Sapienza. In the group of Prof. Fabio Sciarrino, her thesis was on the resilience of hybrid qubits under atmospheric turbulences for quantum communication. In 2019, she successfully completed her PhD at the University of Twente under the supervision of Prof. Klaus J. Boller, working on integrated programmable waveguide circuits for classical and quantum photonic processing. In 2019, she joined QuiX Quantum as Quantum System Engineer. Taballione is now the Commercial & Partnership Lead at QuiX Quantum.

Dr. Pavel Stremoukhov graduated with a Master’s degree in Radiophysics in 2017, from Moscow Power Engineering University, where he specialized in non-linear signal generation within oscillation theory under Dr. Ansar Safin. He furthered his education by earning a PhD in 2022 from Radboud University, focusing on non-linear spin dynamics at the HFML-FELIX laboratory under Prof. Andrei Kirilyuk's guidance. That same year, he embarked on his professional career at QuiX Quantum, starting as a Quantum System Engineer. Stremoukhov is now Quantum Hardware Engineer at QuiX Quantum.

I am Shruti Seshadrinathan and I am an MSc. graduate in Electrical Engineering, specialized in Photonic Integration from Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e). My maser thesis focused on the modelling and optimization of Uni-Travelling Carrier Photodiode where the design and simulations were performed in the RF and Optical environment. I joined QuiX Quantum in May 2024, and it has been an exciting journey working as a Quantum Photonics Engineer since.
